The Japunks Jamboree is one of the most powerful and biggest rock events in New York underground music scene. It features the very best Japanese rock bands in the city, as well as special guest bands from Tokyo, Japan. This annual event has already held 4 times at CBGB`s (one canceled show for 09/11, 2001) and one in Tokyo since we started the event in 2000. There has been a considerable growth in the size of the audience, especially non-Japanese. In fact one of the previous events at CBGB’s the audience exceeded the venue’s legal limit. With the growing feedback, we have finally brought attention toward the underground Japanese music scene. Thus, we are really enthusiastic about introducing and exposing underground Japanese music to many people, especially for the kids who supports NYC underground music scene. This year we are inviting the charismatic major label band "Goggle-A" along with 3 famous indie bands from Japan. Adding to the mix will be the The Spunks and Peelander-Z the best and the well-known NYC underground Japanese bands THE SPUNKS and PEELANDER-Z. Of course, the fun doesn't end there. We have the world famous garager rock band, Guitar Wolf, rounding up the line up! For this event, we are not intending to limit the definition of "punk rock"…rather we intend to explore the many faces of the punk spirit!

Special Guests

GUITAR WOLF

THE BEST AND LOUDEST IN THE WORLD!! A monster garage Rock`n Roll band GUITAR WOLF is finally heading toward New York from their current UFO ROMANTICS WORLD TOUR.

The trio, which consists of Seiji (Guitar Wolf), Billy (Bass Wolf), and Toru (Drum Wolf), begun their legend all the way back in 1987, and have worked with some super famous and charismatic record labels like ESTRUS, MATADOR, Ki/OON, and NARNACK. They started their tour history in the U.S. and all over the world back in 1993, and have played with the likes of THE JON SPENCER BLUES EXPLOSION, THE CRAMPS, THE MAKERS, AND OBLIVIANS.

The essence of their style: hyper-energetic three power-chords songs, full-leather outfits and greased hair - originates from the fundamentals of Rock`n Roll. Their outstanding stage performance, which is always loud, chaotic, but at the same time humorous and unpredictable, has quickly pushed them to the top of Rock`n Roll kingdom. It also made them renowned worldwide as they appeared on a top cover of MAXIMUM ROCK`N ROLL MAGAZINE in 1994. Great albums like “PLANET OF WOLVES (MATADOR)” and “JET GENERATION (MATADOR) are already a best seller in the U.S., and their latest release “UFO ROMANTICS (NARNACK)” has earned rave reviews from many music critics.

With their recent appearance in the full length zombie/UFO/ Rock`n Roll movie “WILD ZERO”, they have established themselves as the true embodiment of cool and Rock`n Roll. On Oct.21, 2003, they will release their new DVD "Red Idle"- a collection of Guitar Wolf's infamous music videos plus exclusive interviews with the members & their friends.
